E-MU Emax – Fully Serviced – 100% Working – 12-Bit Sampler with Analog SSM Filters – Made in USA – Warranty

For sale is a fully serviced and fully tested E-MU Emax, manufactured in the USA in 1986.

Introduced in the mid-1980s, the E-MU Emax brought professional sampling technology to a wider range of musicians and studios. Combining a 12-bit sampling engine with genuine analog SSM resonant filters and analog VCAs, it offers a distinctive blend of digital sampling and analog signal processing that remains highly appreciated today.

The Emax is far more than a sample playback machine. Once a sound is loaded or recorded, it can be shaped using filters, envelopes, modulation and performance controls in a way that feels closer to a synthesizer than a traditional sampler.

12-bit sampling engine
Variable sample rates from 10 kHz to 42 kHz
Analog SSM resonant filters
Analog VCAs
Multi-timbral operation
Built-in arpeggiator
Sequencer functions
8 individual outputs
Made in USA

One of the defining characteristics of the Emax is the sound of its sampling architecture. The combination of 12-bit resolution, variable sample rates and analog filtering produces textures that can be punchy, warm, gritty or unexpectedly detailed depending on how the instrument is used.

Samples can be recorded directly into the machine and transformed through filtering, modulation and resampling techniques, making the Emax a creative instrument in its own right rather than simply a playback device.

The Emax is particularly appreciated for:
classic 12-bit sampling character
analog-filtered sample textures
electronic music production
industrial and experimental sounds
atmospheric pads
vocal manipulation
drum processing
soundtrack and cinematic work

For many musicians, the appeal of the Emax lies in the interaction between digital sampling and analog signal processing. The SSM filters contribute movement, warmth and character that remain difficult to reproduce with modern software-based workflows.

Its direct interface and hands-on approach also encourage experimentation, making it easy to transform simple recordings into unique instruments, evolving textures and distinctive sound layers.

Artists and users include:
Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Beastie Boys, Orbital, Clipping, Solvent, Legowelt and many others.

Condition:
Good cosmetic condition overall with one missing slider cap, a small ding on one corner and some light fading to the front panel lettering (see photos – actual unit for sale).
